Moisture and circulated air are key in growing healthy and mold free microgreens. Bottom water with clean water. After germination place microgreens under lights or indirect sunlight.

When microgreen cotyledon leaves are of a desired size or some start to show the second true leaf, that’s when to harvest. Use a sharp knife or scissors.

Basics of Reliable Planting

High Quality Seeds

Germination is only the beginning

Germination is only the beginning

Your best results will happen with the best seeds. I like to use organic pelleted seeds as a rule. It’s much easier to plant and the coating promotes germination. I recommend buying from respected seed sources like Baker Creek, Harris Seeds, Johnny Seeds and Wild Boar Tomatoes.

Having soil in your germination mix is not necessary. Sifted high quality compost will work as well but being free of weed seeds and pathogens is very important. Nutrients are crucial after first sign of germination.

Moisture Retention - Vermiculite

Moisture Retention - Vermiculite

Vermiculite helps maintain an otherwise tricky moisture level that seeds need for steady and reliable germination. Be careful because it not healthy to inhale the dust that comes when working with vermiculite.

Watering and Fertilizers

Consistent temperature and moisture levels. Fluctuations affect the germination greatly.

Watering and Fertilizers

Have one person designated as the watering lead. The best fertilizer  is the footsteps of the farmer. High quality soil mix with proper nutrients. Extra fertility is unneccesary.
